Creative Project
During my freshman year, I chose ceramics among many options, including painting, piano, visual arts, etc. Making ceramics has taught me the meaning of creating balance and beauty. It has also taught me the persistence to make one art piece more perfect. When I make ceramics on the wheel while listening to music, my mind becomes peaceful. Therefore, it is not just art to me, but a friend and teacher who always become a shelter for me when I get stressed and give valuable life lessons.
Volunteer Services
I have participated in various volunteering programs ranging from helping young multicultural children, tutoring young children, spreading the dark history of the world through making a dark tourism website, supplying goods for poor people through Islamic Relief, mentoring a disabled person in Special Olympics, and providing education to Rwandan children through the SALT program. While helping the Rwandan people, I came up with a social business idea developing products utilizing banana waste to support Rwandan farmers.
What I learned from participating in these volunteering projects is that since people are not born with the same conditions, people with better conditions have to help others who need support to make the world more harmonious and friendly. As the world becomes harmonious, more people can enjoy their life with happiness.
